Love; and the Affection of Our Mothers and Brothers

Love and affection are magical words. In a world torn by strife and personal self-egoes, love might simply be the panacea to all of world's problems.

To love someone can be a selfless act amounting to nothing. Love doesn't pay, the saying goes.

To love and to be loved are two inter-related aspects. To offer love may not mean its reciprocation in the same measure, but it would be to love nevertheless.

Love doesn't require much effort on our part. Even lower life forms are endowed with an innate capacity to love. How often have we seen a wolf-mother snuggling up to its cubs on the umpteen number of infotainment channels. This only drives home the point that we have come to this planet to love and that love is a universal phenomenon.

In some cases, like a guy falling in love with a girl, it may be argued that the after-effects of love might drive one to the point of madness or even to the verge of committing suicide. The latter is not to be. For love itself is a life-force. Life flows from it.

Charity should begin at home. And so should love. I have a wonderful brother at home and my mother, who has already graced so many posts earlier in my blog, also deserves special mentioning. Have we ever tried to focus on the role of the mother in the building of a nation?

It may help one's understanding to describe her as an equal partner in the building of a nation. One may ask how?

Ans: Mothers are home-makers and preservers of units whom we refer to as modern families. They toil in the kitchen all day, to ensure our physical well-being. They serve us with the best dishes, dishes that ensure a filling and wholesome meal. There's no telling when Indian mothers might get infuriated, but leave aside that and you experience love unbound. Each mother to her home, and we have houses that function efficiently as units on their own. All these smaller units make up a bigger whole: the nation i.e.

Thus we see the contribution of our mothers to our society. They are, as we understand, loving figures. Brothers, I might add to mention, are no less. Although their love might be of a different kind, its love nevertheless. Incessant pranks and relentless banter is what my brother stands for. He is younger than me and I guess this suits him well too. A word of caution though, brothers may never be taken for granted, for they are impish and are ever upto something. One must be perenially aware of his surroundings and his brother's exact geographical location(a gps might be of some help). There's no telling when he might pull a prank. The aftermath could only add to one's embarrasment.

The Pain of Injury and Humiliation

Pain can at all times be injurious to your health.

Pain is something to be felt. People often inflict injury on others that may cause pain. There could be various intentions behind causing such enormous amounts of pain and most of them I admit are hideous. The moot point is whether life is all about suffering, all about taking pain and offering it.

There can be no two opinions about it. If we have come here, we must undergo trials and tribulations.

It must be mentioned here that pain can be of a transferrable nature. For example, if a person linked closely to you gets humiliated, your heart goes out to him/her. This also could be one of the foundational principles of relationships.

Pain can also have a multiplier effect. If you nurse a grudge, you only allow it to take root.

Pain can sometimes leave a lasting impact on oneself or one's surroundings. This can be evident in cases where people complain about emotional trauma or psychological pain. The effects of these can be effectively countered through professional counselling and, in case if one be devoid of monetary resources, sage advise.

Have you ever had to experience a situation wherein you felt deep hurt for the person humiliated and linked emotionally to you? Has it ever culminated in a rising dilemma as to how to react in the given circumstances? Whether to give him/her a crying shoulder or whether to ignore his plight? Whether to stand by him in his times of distress or whether to give him the cold shoulder? Whether to retort to the enemy on his behalf or whether to suffer alongside him in silence?
